NORTH LIGHT | The Story Of Jim Ingwersen

I had the privilege of capturing Jim Ingwersen’s story just before he passed away on March 28, 2025. I had been wanting to capture his story for quite some time but did not have a connection to him. One day I was getting coffee with a friend when she told me she was starting to assist Jim’s main caregiver, Lisa. I, to put it mildly, freaked out.

I connected with Lisa and asked if we could start filming the following week. She responded with, “What are you doing tomorrow?” She knew Jim’s time was short. Before I started filming on day one, Lisa warned me that I may only have 20-30 minutes of time with him due to his health and lung capacity. The first shoot ended with 1.5 hours of footage. Jim was eager to talk.

3.5 hours of interview footage, countless shots of b-roll, and various photos later, I am finding myself knee-deep in a documentary. I did not plan for this, but I am so glad it happened.

From my brief time with Jim, I found him to be an incredibly kind and generous man. Beyond his passion for painting, he loved nature, the Door County community, and most of all his wife, Phyllis, who passed away in 2018.

I am privileged to have the opportunity to shine the light on Mr. James Ingwersen.
